Welcome to the James K.M. Cheng Knowledge Centre!
We are a private architectural library at James K.M. Cheng Architects, Inc. Our library aims to spark creativity among our design community by providing an organic and inspirational art space as well as a sanctuary for contemplation and reflection. If you have any inquiries, please feel free to contact the Archivist/Librarian.
Based in Vancouver, Canada, James K.M. Cheng Architects was founded in 1978 by our Principal Architect, James Cheng. We are a collaborative architectural and urban design practice recognized for its pioneering contribution to west coast architecture and city building. In 2012, James Cheng was awarded the Order of Canada.
Notable projects include and are not limited to:
-Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Vancouver
-Living Shangri-La - currently the tallest building in Metro Vancouver
-King George Tower - designed proposed tower that if completed would be one of the tallest buildings in Canada
-Fairmont Pacific Rim- an upscale hotel and condominium building
-Pacific Centre Redevelopment
-Port Moody City Hall
-Burnaby Metrotown Library/Civic Square
-River Green in Richmond, B.C.
-Shangri-La Toronto - mixed used hotel, condo tower in Toronto and second building built by James Cheng outside of B.C.
-Lincoln Square in Bellevue, Washington and the first building built by James Cheng outside of B.C.
-Shaw Tower - mix residential-commercial office tower
-Parc Residences in Victoria, B.C. - residential mid-rise
-Willow Court in Vancouver, B.C. - residential townhouses - In 1983, Willow Court won Cheng the Governor General's Medal for Architecture
-The Falls in Victoria, B.C. - residential mid-rise with retail base
-Terminal City Club Tower - mixed used hotel, condo and office tower
-Waiea Tower in Ward Village - 36-floor residential tower in Honolulu, Hawaii
